THE DOC’S SIMPLICITY OF FORM BELIES THE KINKS AND CURVES OF ITS PORTRAITURE
David Lynch: The Art Life
David Lynch is one of cinema’s great directors and visionaries.
With credits that include some of the most distinctive films produced since the 1970s from Eraserhead to Blue Velvet, to Mulholland Dr., Lynch is always surprising as a filmmaker and as a person. Well before anyone, Lynch also saw the great possibilities of television as a long-form vehicle for his special brand of storytelling.
The excellent documentary examines a side of Lynch we perhaps know less of; his visual art practice. Here we are given a peek from the inside as Lynch himself describes his practice, ideas, motivations and unique perspective on his craft and life. More than just a biopic the film takes us on an absorbing journey through the 60’s and 70’s American art scene ending with the beginning of the Eraserhead shoot.
If you love art, Lynch and anything in between this engrossing and textured portrait is not to be missed.
For one screening only in each location we also present a special double feature of The Art Life with Lynch’s 1977 classic Eraserhead. Check schedule for details. Special prices apply.
